Pilar was born on January 14, 1949 in Galicia, Spain, and lost the battle with cancer in San Francisco, CA on April 10, 2009. She is survived by many friends and family members throughout the world.
Pilar’s fans will remember her as Pily Gaos from the1960’s during which time she enjoyed a brief but successful career as a rock singer in Mexico City.
Pilar left Mexico in her early twenties to pursue a career in the corporate world. She joined MacMillan Bloedel in Toronto, Canada as a secretary, and soon after found her niche in the company’s tax department in Vancouver, Canada.
Pilar obtained her Certified General Accountants’ degree in 1982 by attending night classes at the University of British Columbia.
Her subsequent role as a corporate auditor with MacBlo required extensive travel in Canada and the United States. Her career with MacBlo culminated in Mexico where she served as the Chief Financial Officer of the Durango Mills.
Pilar left Mexico in 1995 to become an independent accounting contractor in Los Angeles and later in San Francisco where she enjoyed a final brief but satisfying career with Shorenstein.
Pilar will be sadly missed by friends and family. At Pilar’s request there will be no formal public service, but tributes may be added to her blog which has been created in her memory.

My name is Shannon Toohey and I was lucky enough to work with Pilar while she was at Shorenstein Co.
ReplyDeleteShe was someone who helped me, made me laugh, and was a great person to have in your corner.
She was tough, no-nonesense, but very warm, and someone who you could really laugh with when things got crazy.
I am glad to have learned and laughed with her while she was here.
To her family- she was a very special person who touched a lot of us and will be greatly missed.
